The “buta” pattern, which looks like a delicate drop-shaped leaf, appeared in the Middle East in the Middle Ages, spread to India in the 16th century, and became popular in South Asia and Europe as a decorative pattern on large fabrics two centuries later. Faced with the success of the pattern, many British fabric makers decided to make their own cashmere shawls. By the end of the nineteenth century, this pattern was known as “paisley”. Designer Aline Honoré elegantly reinterprets this pattern in a flowery bloom.
